Najib's son Nazifuddin bid to stay RM37.6m tax suit dismissed
Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's son Mohd Nazifuddin failed to obtain a stay on the RM37.6 million tax suit against him.
As a result, Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim has set April 28 to hear the Inland Revenue Board's (IRB) application for a summary judgment in the legal action against the 37-year-old businessperson.

As a result, Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim has set April 28 to hear the Inland Revenue Board's (IRB) application for a summary judgment in the legal action against Nazifuddin (photo).
This was confirmed by Nazifuddin's counsel Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee when contacted this afternoon.
"The judge ruled that there were no special circumstances to warrant the stay (application by Nazifuddin). It was a brief oral judgment," Farhan said.
The lawyer adds that the judge then set April 28 to hear the IRB's summary judgment application in the tax suit.
On Aug 8 last year, Malaysiakini reported that the government had filed the tax suit against the 37-year-old businessperson.
Nazifuddin is accused of failing to pay RM1,541,850.83, RM5,718,486.42, RM5,437,086.08, RM3,775,133.23, RM1,796,494.18, RM2,271,812.79, and RM12,052,046.26 as additional tax assessment for the years 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
He was hit with 10 percent on the total due to his alleged failure to pay the back taxes within 30 days of receiving the assessment notice at the LHDN office at Kuala Lumpur on March 18.
For failing to pay up within 60 days, the defendant was slapped with a further five percent hike, bringing the total to RM37,644,810.73.
The government is also seeking five percent annual interest on the total from the date of judgment to the date of settlement, as well as costs and any other relief deemed fit by the court.
On Oct 24, it was reported that the government, through IRB, has filed an application for a summary judgment of the tax suit against Nazifuddin.
On Feb 28, it was also reported that Najib, who himself is facing a RM1.69 billion tax recovery suit, failed to obtain a stay against the legal action.
