It's business as usual for Kedah's Pakatan Harapan-Bersatu state government according to Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir.

Mukhriz held an exco meeting today, photos of which were uploaded to his official Facebook page.

"Mukhriz looked cheerful when chairing the meeting which started at 9.30am," read a post from the page admin.

Bersatu and Harapan have 19 seats in the Kedah state assembly while Umno and PAS have 17.

However, this balance of power can easily shift.

At present, the Bersatu-Harapan one seat-majority comes from Guar Chempedak assemblyperson Ku Rahman Ku Ismail, who defected from Umno in Nov 2018, and joined Bersatu a month later.

Bersatu itself is also split between those loyal to Mukhriz's father Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and the new Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

Any defections could lead to a hung assembly.

It is learnt that PAS is promoting their state deputy commissioner and Jeneri assemblyperson Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor as their menteri besar candidate to replace Mukhriz.

PAS can easily seize the state government as they are the largest single party, with 15 seats, followed by PKR (seven), Bersatu (six), Amanah (four), Umno (two) and DAP (two).
