PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said he does not conspire in the back "like some others" with regard to his meetings with some Perikatan Nasional leaders.

"I reported to the Pakatan Harapan (presidential) council last month," he was quoted as saying by Sin Chew Daily when asked about a recent meeting between him and Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin.

"(There was) also meeting with (Prime Minister) Muhyiddin Yassin. I also reported to the Harapan council.

"I don't conspire behind like some others. I immediately briefed the Harapan council," he added.

Anwar said in the meetings, he had discussed current affairs, home ministry matters and also conveyed the opposition's views.

He did not elaborate on who he meant by "some others".

This came following a meeting between former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad with Amanah, DAP and Warisan on June 25 where it was proposed that Warisan president Shafie Apdal would become the prime ministerial candidate for Harapan and its allies.

The proposal appears to be an attempt to break the impasse between Mahathir and Anwar over who should be the prime ministerial candidate for Harapan and also to attract support from East Malaysia.

Mahathir claimed that the decision to propose Shafie as the prime ministerial candidate received unanimous support during the meeting.

However, DAP and Amanah have said they need to consult their respective party's leadership and bring the matter to the Harapan presidential council.
