MCA duo lodges report over Dr M's 'extremely rich Chinese' remark

Two Pasir Gudang MCA leaders have lodged police reports against Dr Mahathir Mohamad over his allegedly seditious remark about Chinese Malaysians becoming extremely rich and owning towns.
Division publicity bureau deputy chief Albert Tang (above, left) lodged his report at the Kulai Jaya police station yesterday morning while public complaints bureau deputy chief Ang Tun Chek did the same at the Masai police station in the evening.
In their reports which were published on social media, they accused the former prime minister of attempting to increase racial antagonism in the country.
Speaking with Malaysiakini, Ang urged the police to probe Mahathir under the Sedition Act 1948.
"His remark was seditious and had caused unhappiness in the Chinese community," he said.
Mahathir came under fire for reportedly saying in an interview with Asia Times that Chinese Malaysians had become extremely rich and “practically own all the towns in Malaysia”.
He had said that such disparity in wealth was unhealthy.
Asked if Mahathir's remark was similarly shared by Umno and Bersatu which were once led by the nonagenarian, Ang believed this was merely a personal view of Mahathir.
"He blurted out such remarks even with Pakatan Harapan. As a man who helmed the country twice, he should improve racial relations and he should have come up with measures to narrow the gap between urban and rural (folks) when he was still in office," Ang said.
"The city's wealth is free to grab for everyone who makes an effort in pursuing their career and business. What Mahathir said would inculcate resentment against rich people too.
"A few of us from Pasir Gudang MCA discussed this and felt that we should lodge a police report. The division leadership also agreed to this," Ang added.
In his Facebook posting, Tang said he decided to lodge a police report as nobody did so in the past two days.
He added that the report against Mahathir was for igniting racial enmity.
Tang also asked DAP veteran and Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang what Harapan has done for the Chinese community who voted for the coalition during the last general election.
Johor police chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, when contacted, confirmed police have received the police reports.
He also revealed that another police report on the same matter was made in Bandar Sri Alam, Johor Bahru.
I remember that after May 13, 1969 it was forbidden to say such things. Then, Mahathir came to power with his brand of Malay nationalism. Now. he is trying to prevent his going into oblivion by saying these things.
Well, foolish MCA, you are biting the bait. That's what Mahathir wanted, and like clockwork, you took the bait. Where do you think that will bring you? He is pitting the Malays against the Chinese so that he gets support form the Malays. The Malays will get angry at the perceived unfairness and the seemingly provocation. That's what he wanted. Our only consolation perhaps hopefully is that people can see this old game and don't bother too much with his antic anymore.
