Defend Parliament's integrity, maintain speaker and deputy - opposition MPs
A group of seven opposition MPs has issued a joint statement objecting to the PN government's proposed motion to remove the Dewan Rakyat speaker and his deputy.
"Both Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof and Nga Kor Ming have served professionally as managers and administrators of the Dewan Rakyat and there is no solid basis for removing them," said the group in a statement today.

The group includes PKR's Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil, Amanah's Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus (Hulu Langat), DAP's Alice Lau Kiong Yieng (Lanang), Maszlee Malik (Simpang Renggam) who signed as Bersatu (Berprinsip), Warisan's Liew Vui Keong (Batu Sapi), Upko's Wilfred Madius Tangau (Tuaran) and Parti Sarawak Bersatu's Baru Bian (Selangau).
"Since the appointment of (Ariff as) speaker of Parliament, various reforms have taken place and Parliament's improvement has been consistent.
"This has helped to revive the dignity of parliamentary institutions and improved the quality and ensure transparency of Parliament proceedings," said the seven MPs.
They cited the setting up of six parliamentary select committees and the formation of an all-party parliamentary group to further strengthen Parliament.
"Parliament is an important institution as a medium of democracy and reflects the vote of the people," said the group saying that Parliament should not subject to arbitrary changes due to political manoeuvres.
"We, the members of Parliament from the opposition bloc parties, disagree and oppose the motion because the position should be neutral and not affected by any political turmoil," said the MPs.
Three days ago, the Pakatan Harapan secretariat council made a similar call, in a statement signed by PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke and Amanah secretary-general Hatta Ramli.
Last month, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had submitted the motions to replace both Ariff and Nga. The motions are expected to be tabled during the Parliament sitting beginning July 13.
Ariff had said his office had accepted both motions for debate.
Ariff had quit his party post as Amanah disciplinary chief and from being a member of its experts’ advisory committee prior to being proposed as speaker, while Nga, who is Teluk Intan MP, is with DAP.
Deputy speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon, who is also the Batu Pahat MP and is now aligned with the PN government, was not affected by the motions.

Anwar forgot that DAP has more MPs then PKR and conceded the opposition leader post.In fact DAP has more competent MPs then PKR why PKR must monopolized the shadow cabinet?
