"We have imposed an administrative lockdown," said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
According to the minister, the government chose not to declare an enhanced movement control order (MCO) at the area as all 13 individuals affected reside within the confines of the old folks home.
The administrative lockdown would allow the workers who lived outside the old folks home to continue to care for the elderly residents there, he added.
"(By declaring an enhanced MCO) the workers who stay outside cannot enter the old folks home," said the senior minister in charge of security.
"So, we only locked down the place but imposed normal procedures, such as health screenings to be conducted on those who enter," he said.
Visitors, including NGOs, are also not allowed to enter the old folks home within the next 14 days.
The government has been warning the public of the possible emergence of a second wave of the pandemic as people appeared to be letting down their guard with the slight increase of Covid-19 cases in the recent week.
Yesterday, the country recorded 21 new cases, with 13 coming from the old folks home.
Ismail warned that the government will act if cases continue to rise.
To a question on whether schools would be closed due to the increase in cases, he said the government is sticking to its decision to reopen schools in stages between July 15 and July 22.
However, he said the government will revise its decision on the matter involving schools and other sectors if the situation worsens.
The government had also yet to make a decision on restricting huge crowds at shopping centres, he said, but busy ones are encouraged to restrict the number of shoppers allowed to enter their premises especially during the weekend.
