Acryl Sani is new IGP, effective May 4
Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani has been appointed as the new Inspector-General of Police, effective next Tuesday (May 4).

Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani has been appointed as the new inspector-general of police, effective next Tuesday (May 4).
The new top cop received his appointment letter from Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin.
He will be replacing Abdul Hamid Bador, whose tenure ends on Monday.
At present, Acryl Sani's time as IGP is set to expire when he retires on Oct 3 this year.
Acryl Sani's ascension was muddied by controversy after there was a leaked recording of Hamzah planning to install "our boy” in the force.
During a press conference after handing over the new IGP's appointment letter today, Hamzah admitted that it was his voice in the recording but denied any wrongdoing.
The minister said Acryl Sani's appointment was normal, and had gone through the Police Force Commission and was even agreed to by Hamid.
Acryl Sani was also hit by backlash recently after he said at a press conference that a rape threat against a teenager "may be a joke" which the victim could not accept.
Bukit Aman later clarified that it took rape threats seriously and the "may be a joke" remark was an aspect of police investigations.
Malaysiakini had sighted the police report by 17-year-old Ain Husniza Saiful Nizam, in which she expressed her fears over what she described as a threat. The police report did not mention any possibility that it was a joke.
Hamzah in his remarks on Acryl Sani's appointment, urged social media users not to create ill-feelings between the public and police.
