• UPDATED 4.45PM | Added police's statement on the amount Annuar was fined.

The police have fined Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa for breaching Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) after he visited the Kuala Lumpur residence of former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

The minister's office said he will pay the fine as soon as possible.

"Regarding the visit of the minister to Bait Badawi, the residence of Abdullah on July 10, he has received a compound from the police and will settle it as soon as possible," it said in a statement today, which did not state the compound amount.

However, police confirmed that Annuar was slapped with a RM2,000 compound for violating Covid-19 SOP.

“The case was investigated under Regulation 17, Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations (Measures within Infected Local Areas) (National Recovery Plan) 2021," Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said in a statement today, according to Bernama.

The Ketereh MP drew flak after revealing his visit on Twitter. He has since deleted the tweet. House visits are banned during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The following was posted on his Twitter account on July 10:

"Today, we as husband and wife took the opportunity to visit the honourable Tun Abdullah Badawi and the honourable Tun Jeane (sic) Abdullah at their residence in Bait Badawi, KL.

"Over two hours together and eating lunch cooked by Tun Jeane (sic). May Allah swt always bless Pak Lah and family."

In January, Annuar also generated controversy when he was seen walking outdoors with two others from a different household.

He later claimed to have met the two by coincidence.

In February, he was also caught having a meal with a group of people even though dining-in was banned during the lockdown.
