JOHOR POLLS | PKR is facing a setback for its campaign in the Bukit Batu state seat after its candidate Chiong Sen Sern came down with Covid-19.
This will force him to go into isolation and take him out of any physical campaigning activities for at least five days, almost half of the 14-day campaign period.
"With a heavy heart, I have been confirmed with Covid-19 after undergoing a rapid antigen test kit.
"It is my practice to self-test daily before I start any programmes for the safety of all.
"I apologise I have to cancel all the programmes that have been arranged," Chiong (above) said in a statement.
He advised anyone who has come in contact with him in recent days to also undergo a self-test as a precaution.
Not abandoning campaign
However, Chiong stressed that he is not abandoning the campaign.
"My team will proceed with all the activities that have been planned for the people of Bukit Batu.
"I will continue to the digital campaign online including on Whatsapp, Facebook and other social media channels," he said.
Chiong faces BN's S Spayyah and PN's Tan Heng Choon in Bukit Batu which comprises 58 percent Chinese, 34 percent Malays and seven percent Indians.
Johor PKR deputy chief Jimmy Puah was the two-term incumbent since 2013.
However, Puah is not contesting in the state polls as he plans to take on a federal seat in the general election due in 2023.
Campaigning for the Johor polls kicked off yesterday. Johoreans will go to the polls on March 12.
