Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob will appear in a televised address at 3pm today.
This was announced on Ismail Sabri’s social media accounts at 1pm today.
It is widely expected that he will be making an announcement related to the dissolution of Parliament.
In Kuala Lumpur earlier today, BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed that Ismail Sabri has advised the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to dissolve Parliament.
"I am confident that the prime minister, who has the power to advise the Agong, has done his duties," said Zahid, according to Utusan Malaysia.
Ismail Sabri has come under intense pressure from his own party to hold elections this year.
This was amidst repeated advice by experts that elections should only be held after the flood season (November to March) was over.
Perikatan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan have made similar calls.
Two days ago, the Agong decreed that Malaysians must brace themselves for floods.
The Agong and his consort departed for the UK yesterday on an official business trip.
