The group organising the ‘Pulangkan Najib’ dialogue programme in Malacca has apologised for the mix-up implicating former chief justice Abdul Hamid Mohamad with the event.

Gerakan Mahasiswa Pulangkan Najib spokesperson Wan Muhd Zuhir said that there was a “misunderstanding” which led to an erroneous poster of the event being posted to the Facebook of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

The now-deleted post included Abdul Hamid (above) as one of the speakers of tonight’s programme at Dataran Bukit Tariq, Klebang Permai.

“We admit that there was a misunderstanding in the organisation of the ‘Pulangkan Najib’ dialogue in Malacca, involving Abdul Hamid.

“Gerakan Pulangkan Najib apologises for the miscommunication and misunderstanding that occurred,” Wan Muhd said in a statement today.

However, the group hoped to get the views of the former chief justice in its future events, he added.

Earlier, Abdul Hamid called the circulated poster indicating his presence at the event an “irresponsible and deceptive act”.

“I refer to the poster and I strongly deny it. I don’t know anything about the dialogue and never agreed to appear as a speaker or in any capacity whatsoever.

“I demand those responsible to retract the poster and apologise to me,” he said.

Ex-PM Najib Abdul Razak

Najib is serving a 12-year jail sentence at the Kajang Prison for corruption, criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving RM42 million from state-owned SRC International Sdn Bhd.

Petitions

On Oct 14, Gerakan Pulangkan Najib aimed to collect one million signatures on a petition to release Najib which was to be presented to Istana Negara.

However, it cannot be ascertained whether the group has anything to do with another movement that is said to be collecting undergraduates' signatures to support a similar petition.

Umno has made concerted efforts to free Najib, including applying for a royal pardon for the former Pekan MP.
