Ahmad Maslan: Govt will explain Blackrock issue in a day or two

SG BAKAP BY-ELECTION | The government will explain the issue surrounding the sale of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) shares to a company that will soon be owned by Blackrock in the coming days, said Ahmad Maslan.

According to the Umno supreme council member, this follows a detailed explanation of the matter given to government MPs recently.

“We will explain the Blackrock issue in a day or two; government MPs were given a detailed explanation yesterday (Sunday) in Sri Perdana, and we now understand the issue.

“I will ensure the message is disseminated to the rakyat soon,” the Pontian MP told the media after a ceramah in Kampung Makau Suah in Nibong Tebal, last night.

Ahmad, who is also deputy works minister, was responding to a question about the objections by Umno leaders to the planned takeover.

Yesterday, Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan said that Umno ministers voiced their objections to the planned takeover deal.

However, the Umno deputy president indicated that whether or not the deal moves forward will not be a collective cabinet decision, as Khazanah Nasional is under the Finance Ministry.

Ahmad also claimed that Umno members’ anger over the party joining hands with DAP in the coalition has subsided.

He expressed hope that the 5,800 Umno members in the Sungai Bakap state constituency will vote for Pakatan Harapan candidate Joohari Ariffin, come polling day on July 6.

“In Penang and Selangor, they (Umno members) see how the Harapan government, including one led by a chief minister from DAP, is carrying out programmes without sidelining (the Malays). In fact, their initiatives do better than those in other states.

“I admit that there are still issues in the Perikatan Nasional states, but in Penang and Selangor, they (Umno members) are more understanding,” he said.
