100 throng solidarity rally for Pahang royalty in Kuantan

Approximately 100 people joined a gathering aimed at showing solidarity with the Pahang royalty this evening.

The “Raja dan Rakyat Berpisah Tiada” rally was held at the Kuantan City Council Field 1 in Kuantan, Pahang, starting at around 4.45pm.

It is understood that the organisers had expected a larger turnout for the event.

The participants gathered to express their displeasure towards Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin for questioning the role of Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah when he served as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong in 2022.

Malaysiakini found that most of the rally participants this evening were university students from Pahang.

One student interviewed said he and his friends had departed from UiTM Jengka, near Maran, earlier this afternoon to join the rally.

Participants of the rally organised by the Majlis Mahasiswa Anak Pahang (Mampan), dispersed at around 6pm upon advice from the police.

Today's rally began with speeches from Mampan chairperson Aidid Fathullah Abdul Shukur, and a representative from the Malaysian Youth Council’s Pahang chapter.

‘We are listening’

Speaking to the media afterwards, Aidid Fathullah said the main purpose of the gathering was to show that students and young people in Pahang are keeping up with the country's political developments.

“Our purpose for gathering today is clear... we want people out there to know that we, the youth, are listening, not ignoring.

“We, the young people, are aware... Mampan wants to remind everyone involved in politics not to touch on 3R (race, religion, royalty) issues.

“Especially when it concerns the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, our Sultan of Pahang... when politicking, be moderate, so we want to send a signal that 3R issues should not be touched,” he said.

He also informed that Mampan had lodged two police reports on the matter at the Dang Wangi police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Kuantan district police chief Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the security forces monitored the rally throughout its duration.

He said it proceeded peacefully without any untoward incidents.

“The organisers had informed us about the rally prior to its occurrence,” he said.
