Don't use mum's death to campaign, late Mahkota rep's son tells PN

MAHKOTA BY-ELECTION | A son of the late Mahkota assemblyperson Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain has called out veteran politician Annuar Musa for allegedly disrespecting her memory.

In a Facebook post, Wan Hibatullah Abu Bakar said his family was not informed of the politician’s plan to host a tahlil (prayer ceremony) for her, while on the campaign trail for PN candidate Haizan Jaafar.

“Please do not use sympathy over my late mother’s death as campaign material.

“We remain with BN and our family respects the leadership of the Johor Menteri Besar (Onn Hafiz Ghazi),” he said yesterday.

In his post, he included a screenshot of Annuar’s Facebook post, in which the PAS politician said that PN will host prayers for Sharifah next week, with the cooperation of her family.

‘Be polite and decent’

When asked about this today, BN president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi responded by asking who Annuar is and saying he had forgotten the former five-time Umno MP’s name.

He then urged Annuar to leave behind old approaches that lack ethics and etiquette.

“I think the best approach is to be polite and decent. The seat we want to fill in Mahkota is because the people’s representative passed away,” he said.

Zahid was speaking to reporters at a press conference after an event in Kem Mahkota, Kluang, Johor.

On Aug 2, Sharifah, 63, died at the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang after she was hospitalised for internal bleeding.

On Sept 28, Mahkota voters will choose PN’s Haizan or Kluang Umno Youth chief Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah as their representative.
