Infighting within Bersatu Youth, in which the outcome of the wing’s election is being disputed, is now threatening to drag down its former chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.
This is after a former Bersatu Youth leader made a video alleging Wan Fayhsal (above) once bad-mouthed party president Muhyiddin Yassin behind closed doors.
In the video sighted by Malaysiakini, Kota Siputeh assemblyperson Mohd Ashraf Mustaqim Badrul Munir said he was revealing this to rally party members to defend their president.
“This incident, even though it happened a while back, two years ago, but I would like to remind people (of it) in this current situation, of the importance of defending the presidential institution.
“So yes, two years ago, Wan Fayhsal, during a Bersatu Youth meeting, it came out of his mouth that ‘Muhyiddin is no longer relevant’.
“This is a dangerous statement that when linked to the current chaotic Bersatu polls, it’s as if there is a planned agenda to deny the president’s position,” Ashraf said.

He stressed that no individual agenda should be placed above the party's interests.
He also warned that such elements, if left unchecked, would eventually destroy Bersatu.
Hence, Ashraf urged others who previously held Bersatu Youth leadership roles to confirm that Wan Fayhsal had derided Muhyiddin.
Bersatu polls
On Oct 4, it was announced that Muhyiddin had retained the Bersatu presidency uncontested as he was the only nominee for the position.
Wan Fayhsal is expected to contest for a spot in the party’s supreme council. Malaysiakini has contacted the Machang MP for comment.

When contacted, Ashraf revealed he shared the video internally within Bersatu channels yesterday, shortly after the party’s election committee announced that Gombak Setia assemblyperson Hilman Idham won the youth chief post.
Hilman is closely aligned with Azmin Ali, a prominent Bersatu leader who is curiously sitting out the party election.
In a statement today, Hilman said Bersatu Youth under his leadership will have a new, inclusive, dynamic, and progressive image, with a focus on future election victories.
“The time has come for all Bersatu Youth leadership at all levels, particularly those elected, to come together stronger to strengthen the party.
“There is no one person or leader whose interest is greater than Bersatu’s interest as the vessel for our struggle,” he added.
The official results for the youth chief position caused some upset as it was initially reported that Akmal Zahin Zainal Zahir won the post based on unofficial results.
Newly elected youth vice-chief Faiz Rahmad is among those disputing the official results, alleging irregularities and interference in the process.
Muhyiddin earlier today called for all Bersatu members to move past the party poll results and close ranks.
Haha jargon badmouthing his abah,he can say goodbye to his political career in bersatu!
