Muda backs PSM's bid for Ayer Kuning seat, pledges ground support

Muda has announced its support for PSM’s decision to contest the Ayer Kuning state seat in Perak on April 26.

Muda’s political bureau said the move offers voters an alternative beyond the two dominant political coalitions in the country.

“Muda respects PSM’s stance and supports its efforts to uphold principled politics centred on the people, particularly in addressing issues such as the cost of living, social justice, housing, the environment, workers’ rights, and marginalised communities,” its statement read.

As a show of solidarity, the bureau stated that Muda would be actively involved in PSM’s by-election operations in Ayer Kuning.

“Our presence on the ground aims to amplify the people's voices while rejecting racial politics and elitist competition, which often limit voter choices,” it added.

Choose principled politics

Urging Ayer Kuning voters to embrace principled politics that drive real change, Muda reaffirmed its commitment to working with political parties that share its vision of a fairer, more progressive, and integrity-driven political landscape.

Yesterday, PSM deputy chairperson S Arutchelvan said the party would field a candidate in the by-election which was called following the death of incumbent Ishsam Shahruddin from Umno on Feb 22.

He added that PSM would reveal its candidate on April 8, ahead of nominations on April 12.

In the last general election, PSM candidate Bawani KS, with 586 votes, ranked fourth and lost her deposit in a five-cornered contest for the Ayer Kuning seat.

Ishsam was elected the Ayer Kuning assemblyperson after winning the seat with a 2,213-vote majority ahead of his closest contender, Amanah’s Nazri Hashim.
