Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) has confirmed a significant disruption to both KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit train services due to a series of cable thefts followed by disruption to the signalling system at Bandar Tasik Selatan Station yesterday.

ERL, in a statement today, said the first cable cut incident took place at KM48.5 between Salak Tinggi station and KLIA Terminal 1 (T1) around 6.20am yesterday and the combined service for KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit was activated at 6.58am from KLIA Terminal 2 (T2) and 7am from KL Sentral.

“Train shuttle service was also provided from Salak Tinggi station to KL Sentral at 7.40am to address the morning rush hour crowd. Normal train services resume at 10am from KL Sentral and 9.48am from KLIA T2,” it said.

The second cable cut happened at KM43.1 at 5.52pm between the Putrajaya and Cyberjaya station, and the Salak Tinggi station, resulting in all trains experiencing delays.

Another incident involved disruption to the signalling system at Bandar Tasik Selatan station, resulting in all train services being suspended at 9.57pm.

Following the incident, ERL said it initiated a train shuttle service between Putrajaya and Cyberjaya station to KLIA T2, which started at 10.20pm with a frequency of every 20 minutes, while passengers heading to KL Sentral from Putrajaya and Cyberjaya were advised to seek alternative transport.

At 4.47am today, a third cable cut occurred at KM47.2 between Salak Tinggi station and KLIA T1, and shortly after, a fourth cable cut was reported at KM40.6 at approximately 5.20am between Salak Tinggi station and the Putrajaya and Cyberjaya station.

Normal operations restored

In an update, ERL announced that the KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit train services have resumed “normal” operations as of 4pm.

The latest service update has been posted on all ERL social media platforms – X: @KLIAekspres, Facebook: KLIA Ekspres, and Instagram: @kliaekspres.

“Following the recent incidents of cable theft and signalling disruption affecting KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit services, ERL has implemented immediate measures to ease the inconvenience for our passengers and further enhance security of the affected areas,” it said in a statement.

ERL said the complimentary shuttle bus services have been introduced to assist passengers during this period, operating between the Salak Tinggi station and the Putrajaya and Cyberjaya station every 20 minutes.

The shuttle bus service began operating at 1pm and will continue until full restoration of train services.

Security beefed up

In addition to the shuttle bus service, security measures across affected areas were significantly enhanced to prevent similar incidents, it added.

These measures include deploying additional personnel to hotspot areas, increasing patrol frequency and intensifying surveillance around critical infrastructure.

“ERL is working closely with the relevant authorities to investigate the recent incidents and implement preventative measures,” it said.

ERL reiterated its commitment to the safety and well-being of passengers and deeply regrets the inconvenience caused by these unforeseen circumstances.

“We are working around the clock to restore full train services as quickly as possible. We will continue to provide regular updates on the progress of the restoration efforts through our official channels,” it said.
