NGOs urge cops to probe Yusoff over 'Mossad agent' claims

Several NGOs have urged the police to investigate allegations that Yusoff Rawther could be a proxy or agent for Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad.

The call stems from the former research assistant to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s statement in 2017 in support of Israel’s existence, as well as his rejection of Arab nations’ claims over Baitulmaqdis (Jerusalem), which they argue runs contrary to Malaysia’s official position.

MalaysiaGazette reported the groups’ claim that Yusoff’s statement remains accessible on an Israeli international news portal.

Nadi Gemilang Amal secretariat member Dzul Hilmi Zainol reportedly said the matter raises serious concerns about potential foreign interference.

“We are here to lodge a police report and call for an investigation into Yusoff.

“Is he actually a Mossad agent who has infiltrated Malaysian society to push a foreign agenda?

“We have never recognised that country (Israel), and it is strongly rejected by the majority of Malaysians due to its crimes against humanity against the Palestinian people,” he was quoted as saying outside the Dang Wangi district police headquarters today.

Dzul warned that the statement was not only provocative, but suggested the existence of local networks sympathetic to the Zionist regime.

“What’s even more shocking is that there are still local political leaders and lawyers who have come forward to defend him.

“This creates the perception that the statement is not being taken seriously,” he added.

Their report was lodged six days after the Kuala Lumpur High Court acquitted Yusoff of drug trafficking and imitation firearms possession charges.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers, which has since filed an appeal against the acquittal, previously urged the public to stop speculating and spreading slander, amid calls for Yusoff to sue the police and Home Ministry.

‘Don’t be a tool for others’

According to MalaysiaGazette, also present was lawyer Asheeq Ali Sethi Alivi, who advised Yusoff not to allow himself to be used by foreign interests.

“If you truly believe in what you’re fighting for, then stand on your own two feet.

“Don’t be anyone’s tool, especially not for a country that oppresses and kills Palestinians. That’s my only advice,” he said.

Six representatives from different NGOs were present to lodge the police report.

“If it’s true that Yusoff is acting as an agent or proxy for Israel, we cannot remain silent. The police must act swiftly,” they said.

The groups insisted that the report was not meant to slander Yusoff, but was filed in defence of national sovereignty and in line with the sentiments of Malaysians who continue to stand with Palestine.
