Time for PAS to lead PN, says party spiritual leader

PAS MUKTAMAR | PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin today backed the position taken by the party youth wing, which wants PAS leadership to take over the helm of Perikatan Nasional.

Speaking to reporters, he agreed that the time has come for PAS to lead the coalition and the country.

"I raised this matter several years ago, that any policy decision in PN must only be taken after negotiation.

"At that time, there are certain people who think they can just announce anything. So, for the party's interest, I spoke out, saying this should not be the way; we must negotiate first.

"But day by day, it kept getting worse. So, personally, I support the decision taken by PAS Youth and hope that this move can help us to win the next general election," he told a press conference at Maahad Darul Hadis in Alor Setar.

Hashim was there to launch the PAS Ulama Muktamar, which is attended by some 600 delegates today.

According to the leader, PAS has been leading from every aspect, including having successfully won four states and a well-prepared election machinery.

Yesterday, PAS Youth muktamar unanimously passed a resolution to urge the party leadership to take over the helm of PN and lead the country.

This came amid a tussle between PAS and Bersatu over the coalition's prime minister candidate, after Bersatu's annual general meeting last week nominated its president, Muhyiddin Yassin.
