The DNA of several unidentified persons have been found on items seized as evidence in the police’s probe into the death of tahfiz student Wan Ahmad Faris Wan Abdul Rahman 13 years ago.
In disclosing the matter, Attorney-General (AG) Dusuki Mokhtar said police are now in the process of making DNA comparisons with all individuals involved in the 2013 incident.
“The investigation papers prepared by the police were returned to us last week and examined, after which it was found that the DNA of several unidentified men were found on a key exhibit,” Berita Harian quoted him as saying today.
The AG added that as part of the police’s comparison works, his office has issued instructions to secure the chemical reports for the 42 blood samples taken in the case.
“The investigation papers will be returned (to the police) to allow them to obtain the reports,” Dusuki said.

On Aug 20 last year, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed that police will reopen a probe into Wan Faris’ death, with the decision coming days after the student’s family urged authorities to reopen investigations.
The Form Four student was found in the toilet of the Nurul Aman Science Tahfiz School hostel in Kok Lanas, Kelantan.
A hostel warden discovered his body after noticing a foul smell from the toilet. The post-mortem classified the case as a sudden death, with no criminal elements involved.
However, the Kota Bharu Coroner’s Court in June 2016 ruled that Wan Faris’ death was due to the actions of unidentified individuals and rejected the possibility of suicide.
On Sept 1 last year, the teenager’s family submitted a memorandum to the Kelantan government with three demands, including an explanation as to why the school toilet - the site of the incident - was demolished before the investigation had been concluded.
