Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he did not discuss the upcoming Johor state election with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar or the Umno supreme council meeting.
The deputy prime minister said the audience with the Agong today was on major national issues instead, Bernama reported.
“I would like to stress that this was merely a regular meeting. Although many national issues were discussed, the Johor state election was not raised,” he said, adding that the matter would only be discussed with Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi, after receiving consent from the King.
Bullying
The Institute of Teacher Education is investigating an alleged bullying incident at one of its campuses in Sarawak in the early hours of last Friday.
“Firm action, including expulsion from IPGM through disciplinary measures, will be taken against any trainee found guilty,” Bernama quoted it as saying in a statement.
The statement came after an allegation of the incident went viral on social media, purportedly involving a group of senior students and junior male trainees from the 2025/2030 intake at the institution.
Foreign policy
Asean secretary-general Kao Kim Hourn has expressed optimism that the Code of Conduct (COC) in the South China Sea between Asean and China can be concluded this year, as targeted.
“We have a monthly meeting basically to pursue the negotiations. We are now maintaining the momentum, so we are making concrete progress,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
