• Paddy planting for the first paddy season of the year is expected to begin after Aidiladha holiday, subject to water supply conditions, rainfall and current technical advice.

  The Muda Agricultural Development Authority (Mada), which oversees agriculture and irrigation in northern Kedah and Perlis, said this following reports that only 10 percent of Kedah paddy farmers had begun planting due to the uncertain water supply and concerns over cost.

  It added that there have been positive developments at Pedu Dam, Muda Dam, and Ahning Dam, following cloud-seeding activities and rainfall in the catchment areas.

  Water release from Pedu Dam and Ahning Dam is continuing at a combined rate of 60 cubic feet per second to domestic water supply remains stable and adequate.

  “Despite the positive increase resulting from cloud seeding operations and rainfall, existing water resources still need to be managed efficiently, in a controlled and responsible manner,” it said, according to Bernama.

• Former finance minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz will be called to testify against his former boss, former premier Muhyiddin Yassin, on July 6 in the Jana Wibawa corruption trial.

  

  The Star reported the prosecutors as saying that Zafrul was among 25 prosecution witnesses who have yet to be called to take the stand.
