Politics 

• Parti Bersama Malaysia is setting its sights on contesting between 10 and 20 parliamentary seats at the 16th general election, said party co-leader Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

  According to Free Malaysia Today, Nik Nazmi reiterated that while Bersama remains firmly against joining other coalitions, the party would consider pushing for reforms under a memorandum of understanding.

  

  Such an arrangement, he added, would only be considered as a last resort to solidify the stability of a future administration in the event of a hung Parliament.

Johor polls

• Johor PKR chief Dr Zaliha Mustafa said Pakatan Harapan will unveil its candidates for the state election on Monday.

  

  “The announcement of candidates has been agreed upon by the state and central Harapan. God willing, we will hold it (the announcement event) in the north of Johor, possibly in Bukit Gambir, Tangkak,” Bernama quoted her as saying.

Football 

• Amid mounting pressure against the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) over various issues, the governing body announced a slew of terminations involving high-ranking national team officials in a major overhaul.

  In particular, FAM said it has agreed to end its working relationship with Harimau Malaya head coach Peter Cklamovski and CEO Robert Douglas Friend.

  

  In a statement today, FAM said the decision was reached via mutual agreements, with Cklamovski’s contract terminated two days ago, while Friend’s contract ended on June 1.

  The contracts of two senior squad technical staff members, Matthew Smith and Seiya Imazaki, were also terminated effective June 16.

  The contracts of National Under-23 Team head coach Nafuzi Zain and goalkeeping coach Yazid Yassin have likewise been terminated by mutual agreement, effective June 15.

Court 

• The Kuala Lumpur High Court fixed Aug 13 to hear an MACC application to restrain Na’imah Abdul Khalid, widow of former minister Daim Zainuddin, or any parties linked to her, from managing offshore assets worth US$157.5 million (RM645 million) and £85 million (RM463 million).

  

  Judge Noor Ruwena Nurdin set the hearing date today during case management proceedings, which were attended by deputy public prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumaat and Na’imah’s lawyer, Nizamuddin Abdul Hamid.

  The application, submitted on June 25 last year, marks the third such bid filed by the prosecution involving overseas assets linked with Daim’s family, following earlier proceedings on assets in the United Kingdom and Singapore.
