'Holy' policies: Anwar aide echoes Dr M
In July 2018, then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the Pakatan Harapan manifesto was not a "holy book" in response to criticism that he was ignoring policy pledges.
Fast-forward to June 2025, and an aide to Anwar Ibrahim is using similar rhetoric when faced with criticism over the expanded SST policy.
Kamil Abdul Munim, Anwar's aide at the Finance Ministry, said the SST is not a "divine law" and that revisions can be made.
But unlike Mahathir's combativeness, Kamil appears to be softening the ground for any possible revisions to the SST expansion amid continued backlash - especially over Anwar's avocado faux pas.

Rafizi out of cabinet, into the roaster
Rafizi Ramli is officially out of the cabinet.
Now no longer shackled by the post he resigned from, the Pandan MP is setting himself up to be a vocal backbencher.
He is starting with a new episode of his podcast, which he claims will both “burn” and enlighten.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has said that one of Rafizi's ex-colleagues will manage the economic portfolio in the interim.

Malacca reclamation's RM12m hidden cost
The proposed Straits of Melaka Waterfront Economic Zone (SM-WEZ) reclamation project promises to be a major economic boon for Malacca.
It is touting RM100 billion in investments and 75,000 job opportunities.
But for fisherfolk, the project may be a huge financial blow to them.
The project’s environmental impact assessment (EIA) estimates that fisherfolk will lose up to RM12 million per year in opportunity costs if the project goes through.
This includes from higher fuel costs and maintenance as their boats have to venture out further in order for them to make a living.
