Are varsity admissions merit-based?
Malaysia's public university admissions system is in the spotlight with questions raised about whether it is truly merit-based.
This is after multiple STPM top scorers who had a 4.0 CGPA failed to get placements in their top picks.
STPM graduate Edward Wong has become a poster boy for this issue, after his lament about failing to get into an accounting programme caught national attention.
The Higher Education Ministry said despite Wong's excellent performance, in four of the universities he applied for, his ranking was in the 1,000 range, while open spots were less than half that number.
However, this in turn has raised another question, on whether matriculation graduates who go through a one-year programme are competing in the same pool as STPM graduates who had to study for two years.

Muhyiddin not out of the woods yet
A challenge against Muhyiddin Yassin's position as Bersatu president is not over yet.
Sources revealed that a senior leader is still planning to submit some 120 statutory declarations from division chiefs, calling for Muhyiddin to resign.
Meanwhile, PAS leaders have asked Bersatu not to get ahead of itself by nominating Muhyiddin as PN's prime minister candidate.
