Police action against former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad is just a fact of life, said his wife Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.

"That is politics, that is the way of life in Malaysia," she told reporters outside the Subang Airport today.

She said this when asked how she feels about action being taken against a long-serving former leader like Mahathir.

Police want to question the country’s longest serving premier for his involvement and remarks made in at the Bersih 4 rally.

Asked if she was ready for Mahathir to be jailed, Siti Hasmah said she was uncertain.

"I don't know what is going on, so I can't say if I am prepared," she said.

Siti Hasmah had previously said the Bersih 4 rally was a showing of the people's power.

Siti Hasmah and Mahathir were speaking to reporters after returning from the Czech Republic.

When asked why he was in the European country, Mahathir said he was looking at cars.

The couple were greeted by 100 supporters who clamored for a chance to shake hands and take pictures with the national icons.
