A candidate in the Universiti Malaya campus polls was found at a mosque in Bangi about 12.30am today, some 30 hours after she was said to have gone missing .

Ma NONE sturah Abu Bakar, a Pro-Mahasiswa candidate, is said to be in a weak state, but is believed to be unharmed.

Speaking to reporters this morning, another candidate, Mohd Syahid Mohd Zaini, said Masturah ( left ) was found in a “weak state and was not able to speak much”.

Mohd Syahid said Masturah was located after she made a phone call to her mother using a borrowed mobile phone about 11.19pm yesterday.

“She is now with her parents in Sungai Buloh… she is (still traumatised) and is unable to speak at length about the incident,” he said.

This evening, at a press conference with her parents, Masturah appeared shell-shocked and was unable to describe what had happened during the hours that she went missing.

Speaking on behalf of her daughter, Mariam Abdul Rashid said  Masturah had no recollection of what happened.

 

When reporters asked Masturah if she was conscious throughout the ordeal, Mariam interjected, saying: “We don’t know… it is unfair for us to put pressure on (Masturah) by asking what had happened."

 

Mariam added that the matter was now under police investigation and that the undergraduate’s statement had been recorded by the investigating officer. 

Polling begins

Meanwhile, 18 polling centres located in six faculty buildings and 12 residential colleges at Universiti Malaya opened at 9am as the students began voting.

Those living in residential colleges are required to vote at their respective colleges, while the rest will vote at the other polling centres.

The faculty buildings are the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Economics and Administration, Faculty of Architecture, Malay Studies Academy, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics and the Medical Faculty.

Malaysiakini had earlier been told that students who live off-campus will be required to cast their votes at the Dewan Tunku Canselor.
