BN strategic communication director Abdul Rahman Dahlan said many on Twitter were hoodwinked by reports regarding the RM2.6 billion deposited into the personal accounts of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

He was responding to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) statement that the money was donation and not from 1MDB funds.

"MACC confirms RM2.6b is from donors.

"Sadly many on Twitter were hoodwinked by WSJ (The Wall Street Journal ), Swk Report ( Sarawak Report ) & oppo (opposition) who said PM stole frm 1MDB & rakyat," he tweeted.

Earlier, Abdul Rahman engaged in a twitter tussle with PKR lawmaker Rafizi Ramli over the MACC statement.

Rafizi earlier claimed that he believes the next narrative from Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Abdul Rahman would be that funding came from Middle East tycoons.

Following the MACC statement, Rafizi tweeted: "I was informed abt this Arab donor #dongeng (fairy tale) for a while. I guess when I pre-empted the story, they have no choice but to confirm it."

Responding to this, Abdul Rahman said: "OMG! You actually believe @SPRMMalaysia had to issue statement because of you? Wow! Get a grip of your ego man!"

"Seriously dude. You posted a statement just b4 @SPRMMalaysia &you had the audacity to say SPRM was 'scared' of your revelation?" he added.

On July 3, The Wall Street Journal and Sarawak Report cited Malaysian investigators as claiming that RM2.6 billion was transferred into the prime minister’s accounts.

Najib denied that he used public funds for personal gain.
