Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has 'advised' BN component party, MCA not to be 'arrogant' as they are not only representing the Chinese.

His remarks came as he was commenting on the parliamentary seat of Bandar Tun Razak which BN has lost twice to the opposition in general elections.

"I want to advise the component (party MCA), please don't be arrogant.

"You are not only representing the Chinese. Like me, I am representing the whole of Malaysia. Same with the prime minister. He is representing the whole of Malaysia.

"So be united, we lost because we were not united," he said at the Bandar Tun Razak Umno division meeting in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur today.

BN had fielded MCA's Tan Kok Eng in the last general election. Tan's father is the seat's former MP, Tan Chai Ho.

Former PKR leader and former Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim had won the seat with 44,067 votes. Tan managed to garner 32,235 votes.

Bandar Tun Razak is a Malay-majority area, with more than 50 percent comprising Malay constituents.

Tengku Adnan ( photo ) added MCA should not just give their services to one particular race or group but instead provide their services to all the rakyat.

"Why do I, like a mad man, go out to areas in the Federal Territory every night? It's because I ask the people what is it that they want," he said.

He also stressed that he did not want BN to lose Bandar Tun Razak yet again in the next general election.

"Because this is Bandar Tun Razak, named after (former prime minister) Abdul Razak Hussein, who had given his all for the Malays," he said.

Doesn't understand opposition

Tengku Adnan also had a message for the media, Malaysiakini in particular.

"Two days ago when I was at a Chinese school, I said that the president (Najib Abdul Razak) should be given a chance because he is a president who wants to move forward.

"But what did they spin, Malaysiakini ? Just half of it.

"So I want to tell everyone here today that those who use such tools are rumour mongers, they  are the carriers of slander, they want to destroy the country," he said.

It is unclear which part of Malaysiakini 's report that Tengku Adnan was unhappy with as the portal had indeed quoted him asking the people to give Najib ( photo ) a chance.

"Please give him (Najib) a chance so he can provide better services in the government for the rakyat," he was quoted as saying so in his speech at a ground-breaking ceremony of a new building at Chong Hwa Independent High School on Thursday.

In an event later in the afternoon, Tengku Adnan said that he simply did not understand what the opposition was trying to do.

"I don't understand what they are up to. I'm only worried that the opposition and some people in the ruling party are being used by people who do not like to see the achievements of Malaysia because Malaysia can be a model country to the world," he said.

It is unclear why Tengku Adnan had said this, as he had first apologised for having to mention about politics. He was the guest of honour at the Kolej Teknologi YPC-iTWEB's convocation ceremony also in Cheras today.
