After retracting their invitation to Umno president Najib Abdul Razak, Umno Semporna division is now hoping that his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin will grace their annual general meeting this weekend.
According to a source, this Umno Semporna grassroots members want Muhyiddin, along with their division chief and Umno vice-president Mohd Shafie Apdal, to brief them on issues currently faced by Umno.
"Also Muhyiddin and Shafie are now facing attempts to bar them from officiating the other divisional delegates' meeting which is going on right now," the source, who is close to Shafie, said.
In view of this, said the source, Umno Semporna wanted to provide Muhyiddin an avenue to speak.
Muhyiddin and Shafie were two high-ranking Umno ministers who were dropped from Najib's cabinet on July 28.
The duo had been consistently raising questions on Putrajaya's handling of the 1MDB controversy.
According to the source, Umno Semporna grassroots had recently told Shafie of their anxiety and worries over the state of the party.
They want to hear for themselves the explanation from those who are directly involved in the Umno internal crisis right now, he said.
"The people of Semporna are awaiting their attendance," the source said.
