The momentum of the Bersih 4 rally will be maintained with a nationwide road show aimed at urging the people to pressure their lawmakers to push for a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"As continuation of Bersih 4, we will have roadshows with other organisations throughout the country to bring forward this agenda," said Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah today.

"We are still pushing for a no-confidence against Najib," she said when met at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex where she was charged with taking part in street protests earlier this year.

Bersih, she said, will ask the people to demand that their MPs to put forward a no-confidence vote in Parliament against Najib.

"We will do the roadshow so that the people understand why we need to do this," she added.

The roadshow will commence on Sept 17 at Bayan Baru in Penang followed by Kedah on Sept 18, Kuantan on Oct 12 and Ipoh on Oct 15.

Charge will be challenged

Bersih drew some 100,000 protesters to attend its 34-hour rally on Aug 29 and 30 in Kuala Lumpur, disturbed by revelations of RM2.6 billion said to be donated in Najib's personal accounts.

Meanwhile, Maria said their counsel will challenge the charge slapped on them for taking part #KitaLawan rallies in March.

"Freedom of assembly has been totally violated. All the charges have to be dropped," she asserted.

"There is no necessity to drag so many of us to court to go through something that we actually had won in court before. It is a waste of time.

"We will definitely file to challenge this, for sure," she said, adding their counsel will file a striking out application.

She was referring to Selangor deputy speaker Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who was charged for failing to give the district police the required 10-days notice for the Black 505 rally on May 8, 2013 but was later acquitted by the apex court.

The Court of Appeal had ruled the Section 9 (5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act was unconstitutional . The Federal Court maintained the ruling in May.

Civil society was demanding democratic reforms in the #KitaLawan and Bersih 4 rallies, but the authorities responded with prosecution, she lamented.

"This is an old charge, the rallies happened six months ago. So, why bring it up now? They have to answer for it.

"Is this done to scare us? Is it politically motivated?" she queried, adding that they were unfazed and would carry on with their struggle.

"Our demands are valid. Let us not get distracted by all these arrests and charges, and get to work on the democratic reform agenda," she urged.
