Felda goodies; Dr M takes public transport credit; '99pct lies' on Rosmah

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines from yesterday you may have missed, in brief.

Felda goodies galore

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak announced a list of incentives for Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) settlers, including a RM5,000 cash windfall and the taking over of their replanting debts and debt incurred to buy Felda Global Ventures shares in 2012.

(List of incentives)

Najib said settlers who went against the government, sold their products to other buyers and took the agency to court also have six months to return to the fold and meet certain conditions to enjoy the incentives.

DAP's Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang questioned why the cash windfall is just a third of what was dished out to settlers before the 13th general election.

Dr M: I'm the real public transport trailblazer

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad takes on his nemesis Najib by pointing out that he was the one who set the foundations for modern public transport in Malaysia, and that Najib should not claim credit for the later edition of the MRT.

The Pakatan Harapan chairperson also said that he is prepared to debate with anybody, and wonders why people have been afraid to take up the challenge.

Meanwhile, MyMRT strategic communications director Najmuddin Abdullah laments damage and vandalism on the new MRT stations, after only five days of operation.

99pct of things said of Rosmah are lies

Prime Minister's aide Rizal Mansor, who also serves Najib's wife Rosmah Mansor, said "ninety-nine percent" of things said about Rosmah are lies concocted by the opposition.

Rizal also denied that Rosmah tries to muscle her way into the Prime Minister’s Office, noting that she is there only twice a year and does not even use the office meant for the PM's wife to receive guests.

Other Kinibites

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's Kluang division chief Radzali Md Noor died while wrapping up his speech during a ceramah organised by PKR-linked NGO Invoke in Johor on Saturday.

Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos screened a video portraying him as a self-made man during the Pandan Umno Youth division annual general assembly, to prove he is worthy of the Umno Youth chief post.

Looking ahead

The Dewan Rakyat resumes with scheduled tabling of contentious legislation, such as the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Bill to prevent unilateral conversions of minors and the Bill to amend the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act.
