KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Landslide shakes Penang

A deadly landslide hit a construction site in Tanjung Bungah, Penang, killing at least three people and trapping 11 others.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was saddened by the tragedy, while several BN leaders blamed the DAP-led state government for the incident.

Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng said there will be a full state inquiry into the causes of the accident.

A landslide also occurred on Mount Kinabalu, although no injuries or deaths were reported.

Najib wants two-thirds majority in GE14

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is hoping for BN to win a two-thirds parliamentary majority in the 14th general election (GE14).

Kedah PAS bid farewell to Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar, who will not be nominated as a PAS candidate for GE14.

This is after Mahfuz and three other Kedah PAS assemblypersons turned up at the Amanah national convention.

Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad lamented that the Registrar of Societies is still ignoring Harapan's application to register as a coalition.

Shafie moves from hospital to lockup

Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president Shafie Apdal was discharged from hospital and moved into an MACC lock-up.

The MACC said two of Shafie's special officers were detained on Thursday and will be remanded for five days.

Shafie's arrest will be a 'blessing in disguise' for Pakatan Harapan, and a nightmare for BN, said a Sabah Amanah delegate.

Other Kinibites

The head of the prosecution division in the Attorney-General's Chambers will lead the special task force set up to monitor a probe involving MACC chief Dzulkifli Ahmad.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said that the opposition would never be happy with any of his actions, including the appointment of Malaysia Airlines’ CEO.

Looking ahead

Former MAS CEO Peter Bellew is expected to hold a press conference at 3pm today.

Pakatan Harapan will hold a forum on how it will fare in three-cornered fights.
