Big finale at Umno AGM

The curtains came down on the 71st Umno annual general assembly, with party president Najib Abdul Razak preparing Umno for the 14th general election as well as looking to ensure his subsequent political survival.

Najib, who is also prime minister, denied he had any hand in Umno adopting a motion to ensure that he will not be challenged in the next party election, which will take place after the general election.

Najib also went on the offensive, stating that his archenemy former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was a man of the past and not the future, which is Umno.

Zahid warns of multi-cornered fight risks

Having survived the 1MDB scandal, Najib credited his deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's friendship and loyalty for Umno's resurgence.

While the common belief is that multi-cornered fights will benefit Umno, Zahid warned that this may not be the case in certain seats.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin praised Najib as a statesman who was concerned for the next generation, instead of the next general election.

Jamal arrested over threats against Zaid

Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos was arrested by police over his threats against former minister and DAP member Zaid Ibrahim.

Zaid denied that he had wronged the Selangor sultan, in response to Umno's protests over his criticism of the monarch.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang accused those advancing the idea of a “Malaysian Malaysia” of trying to sideline the power of Muslims, and called for such attempts to be rejected.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak said appropriate action will be taken against Zaid for his Twitter comment against the sultan.

Blogger remanded over MACC leak

A blogger who goes by the name Milosuam was remanded for three days to facilitate police investigations into the leak of a MACC witness statement which implicated Johor Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin in a graft case.

Salleh said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission was investigating news portal The Malaysian Insight for allegedly insulting the prime minister.

Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman denied hijacking Umno Youth's protest outside the US embassy on Friday after he turned up at the gathering.

The Global Movement of Moderates said Malaysia's resolution to combat extremism and radicalisation had been accepted by 135 United Nations member nations at the 72nd Session of the UN Assembly.

Kelantan Amanah Youth chief Hazmi Hassan filed a police report after receiving death threats on Facebook in response to an article he wrote about late PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Selangor Umno will be organising a rally in solidarity with the state’s sultan in response to former minister Zaid Ibrahim's criticism against the monarch.
