Gov't makes U-turn on umrah visa system Imams

The government scrapped the Integrated Manasik Monitoring System (Imams), which was meant to manage umrah visa applications, just a day after its launch.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said he was against the system, introduced by the Tourism and Culture Ministry.

Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said she was not aware that the company which ran Imams had a non-Muslim top executive.

Mas Ermieyati assured that Imams would be replaced by a 100 percent Muslim mechanism.

MACC officers nabbed by religious officers

Two MACC officers, including a director, were nabbed by Selangor Islamic Council officers on suspicion of khalwat (close proximity).

A former district police chief, his wife, and a businessperson were released on bail after being nabbed by the MACC.

Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali says the MACC should not re-open its probe on the Sungai Yu land scandal simply based on the report of his rival, Selangor BN chief Noh Omar.
