The family of a student who was slapped by a teacher are planning to file a lawsuit after criminal charges against the latter were dropped today.

Utusan Online reported that the student's mother, who only wished to be known as Mas, said the family were hurt by the Seremban Magistrates Court's decision to grant Azizan Manap, better known as Cikgu Azizan, a discharge not amounting to an acquittal.

She said the they had photographic and medical evidence that their youngest son had been seriously injured by the teacher.

"My son's cheeks were (swollen) red while his ear rang because of the slap. The medical officer who treated him also suggested that we file a police report because of the injuries.

"We will reveal all of it in a press conference tomorrow," Mas was quoted as saying.

She added that neither she nor her husband were informed by the school, SK Taman Semarak, about her son having disciplinary problems prior to the incident.

"Even then they told us after we asked why our son was slapped in such a way," she said.

It was reported that Azizan punished the 11-year-old student for allegedly sniffing glue, playing truant and bullying his schoolmates at the assembly area of SK Taman Semarak, Nilai, about 7am on April 6.

Azizan, who was represented by lawyer Francis Pereira, was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code on Oct 31.

Section 323 pertains to causing hurt voluntarily, which could have seen him imprisoned for a year or slapped with a fine of RM2,000.

After his discharge by the court, Azizan said he had forgiven his student, and will continue teaching.
