De facto law minister Liew Vui Keong has claimed that he has already declared his assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) but a valuation of those assets is still pending.

He said he did not know the value of some of his assets for several reasons, and these include native titles in Sabah that he has held for at least three decades.

“The declaration form asked in a column if I knew of their current value and I put ‘not available’ as I don’t have information on their current values at that time.

“The same goes to two of my properties currently on loan with the bank. Their current values were not available to me at the time I filled the column but I did state the value of the properties at the time of purchase several years ago,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Another reason for not being able to list the values, he said, is that he does not plan on selling his properties anytime soon. Hence, the need to seek a valuation did not arise before.

He said he has already declared these assets to the MACC in October, and will inform them of its value soon.

Previously, it was reported that based on MACC’s asset declaration website, four ministers have yet to declare their assets.

Apart from Liew, these are Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamaddin Ketapi, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department P Waythamoorthy, and Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.

Mohamaddin has said he is “poor” and have nothing to declare, while Waythamoorty said he had spent all his earnings to champion the Indian community.

According to the MACC, 13 MPs have also yet to submit their declarations, along with 24 government administrative members, including political secretaries.
