Nazri reaches out to Anwar

BN secretary-general Nazri Aziz has reached out to prime minister-in-waiting Anwar Ibrahim to strike a deal, fearing the possible deregistration of Umno.

Selangor Umno grassroots, whom Nazri met on Wednesday night, were, however, not keen on a deal as they refuse to work with DAP.

Asked about his meeting with Nazri in Parliament, Anwar said that he had no reservations about meeting anyone as he is open for discussions with those who support the reform agenda.

Meanwhile, veteran newsman A Kadir Jasin confirmed that a meeting between Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and five Umno leaders, a photograph of which had gone viral on social media, took place on Oct 22.

Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan clarified that the meeting with Mahathir was not to discuss switching parties but to appeal to the prime minister not to dissolve Umno.

Malaysia to negotiate with Singapore on ILS, says Loke

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said technical experts from Malaysia and Singapore are scheduled to meet next month to talk on the issue of the proposed Instrumental Landing System (ILS) for the republic’s Seletar Airport.

Singapore's Ministry of Transport, meanwhile, said it had informed Malaysia at a meeting on Nov 29 on the need to put in place instrument flight procedures for both the northern and southern approaches to its Seletar Airport.

On the dispute on the maritime front, in regard to Johor Bahru's port expansion and the waters off the coastal area of Tuas, Singapore, Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah said a meeting will also be held between his officers and their Singapore counterparts to discuss the matter.

Amid the ongoing maritime boundary dispute, Singapore has filed a declaration under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (Unclos) to ensure that Malaysia does not unilaterally commence third-party arbitration or adjudication against the republic.

In an unrelated matter, Loke said his ministry is prepared to mediate in the passenger service charge (PSC) dispute between Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) and the AirAsia group to de-escalate tensions.
