More grumblings over PKR appointees

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim's choice of appointees to the party's national leadership council shows that he is out of touch with the grassroots, said Ketereh PKR leader Abdul Aziz Abdul Kadir.

In a statement today, Aziz said he failed to comprehend why Anwar had appointed those who lost in the recent party elections.

"It is as though the president is creating a formula for failure in the party which he created," said Aziz.

"It is clear that the president does not understand or does not want to understand what the PKR members want by appointing candidates who were unsuccessful in the party elections without thinking about the negative consequences."

Aziz added the move was undemocratic and accused Anwar of doing the same with the appointment of PKR state leaders recently.

The appointment of the state leaders was contentious because it was done through secret ballot and there were allegations that the vote was not respected.

So far, 13 out of 14 Kelantan PKR divisions have come up to protest against the appointment Mohd Supardi Mohd Noor as state PKR head while Hassan Karim declined his appointment as Johor PKR head on grounds that the process was not transparent.

Meanwhile, PKR women's wing vice chief Sangeetha Jayakumar and PKR Youth vice-chief Mohd Nazree Mohd Yunus urged Anwar to reconsider the appointments to ensure that the process was transparent, fair and reflected the wishes of the grassroots.

"The recent PKR elections was a referendum by party members. They have clearly stated their aspirations on the type of leadership and path ahead for PKR," said the duo in a joint statement.

Sangeetha and Mohd Nazree won the highest number of votes in their respective contests during the party's leadership elections which concluded last month.

PKR practices a one-person-one-vote system. The results of the election saw the Mohamed Azmin Ali's faction winning big at every level although he won the deputy presidency only by a sliver.
