Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun clarified that it is the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) which decides on whether a person should be charged or otherwise.
“The people must understand the legal process, it is not all up to us (the police).
“We investigate, but we do not press charges, we rely on the deputy public prosecutors for further instructions and we will adhere to whatever instructions they give us.
“I hope everybody understands this,” he said when asked during a press conference after the Federal Reserve Unit’s 63rd-anniversary celebrations in Cheras today.
Fuzi was commenting on the decision to release a senior citizen, who was detained over a Facebook post deemed insulting to Prophet Muhammad, on police bail.
The decision to free the 68-year-old suspect drew criticisms from various quarters while PAS and Umno have warned that a mammoth gathering would be held, should the AGC fail to take swift action against him.
Elaborating, Fuzi said the police should not be blamed for this.
“It's not our fault, many do not understand and say we are in charge of everything. It’s not us,” he added.
Fuzi said the police had applied for a 10-day remand order for the suspect, but the Magistrate's Court only granted three days.
“We asked for the remand to be extended, but it was not approved as the suspect had health complications of the heart, high blood pressure and other things.
“The court turned down our (remand) request and that is why we released him on police bail,” he added.

Any mega rally for the MALAY who place a Hindu Idol at Surau?
IT IS A MEASURE OF HOW CIVILIZED Malaysia is, through how much we can tolerate on people's words! It's a BARBARIC Malaysia in the eyes of the civilized world,n the government seems to follow the trend of racial n religious extremism ,instead of leading us to a civilized country. There r millions of religious criticizing words in the internet each day around the world,u could never stop them no matter what u do,it's just natural of people criticizing, unless u impose a death sentence on them;may be Malaysia is leading to that step. As we knew, even murdering would happen in the numbers of tens of thousands around the world every day, millions of crimes would still be committed each day no matter how heavy the penalty imposed. How serious r these words of criticizing r, which u want to stop all of them;no matter what u do, the religious extremist n evil politician could still pick up hundreds of offending words from the net to incite racial hatred, that's the reality n probability. The thing is,peoples around the world with the civilized minds would just see it as something of no big deal n they know it's the nature of mankind to criticize whatever things.ONLY THE SHAMELESS n BARBARIC HUMANKIND like Umno-Pas WOULD EXAGGERATING these trivial matters for politicking.
