PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has stressed the importance of education over grand houses of worship, regardless of religion.
Anwar said today that the government must put education first in its resolve to help the poor.
"We must work together to help the poor regardless of race. The priority is education. We cannot have majestic mosques at the expense of education.
"With Indians, you find impressive, huge temples, but the plight of Tamil schools is ignored," said the Port Dickson MP.
Anwar was speaking at a dinner event hosted by the Malaysian Association of Indian University Graduates at the Marriott Hotel in Putrajaya.

In his speech, he emphasised that people must not subscribe to exploiting religion as a shortcut to heaven.
"Support our mosques and temple, but the future lies in a good education."
Anwar offered his undivided commitment to the Indian community due to the massive support his party had gained from Indians.
"In PKR, I was getting phenomenal support from Indians. This party has more Indians than any other political party in the country.
"I give my commitment as long as I have the mandate. I will never fail in my commitment," he said to applause from the audience.
