PKR president Anwar Ibrahim is prepared to meet with the leaders of a rival faction although he believes the party is moving in the right direction.

"I am a democrat, people can come and discuss (matters with me).

“If they (the other faction) need two or three hours for a special session to discuss matters amicably, I am okay (with meeting them). I meet leaders in my office all the time," he added.

Speaking to reporters in Petaling Jaya this afternoon, Anwar said he does not consider PKR to be in a crisis.

“... I think the party is moving in the right direction although not 100 percent. I don't see any real problem (within PKR),” he added.

Ties between Anwar and his deputy Azmin Ali have been strained for years.

The situation worsened amid speculation that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad preferred Azmin as his successor and the release of a sex video implicating the latter.

On July 18, Zuraida openly admitted there was a factional split within the party and said it was up to the PKR president to mend the growing rift resulting from the recent sex video scandal implicating Azmin.

On Aug 28, she also claimed the party had not responded to three letters sent by her on the matter.

However, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Abdullah Nasution rebutted her and claimed that the party only received one letter instead of three as stated by Zuraida.

Meanwhile, Anwar said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad never offered him the opportunity to join the cabinet since he was released from prison in May 2018.

"The understanding was very clear that we should support Dr Mahathir as the premier and Dr Wan Azizah (Wan Ismail) as the deputy premier.

"I will only assume premiership at the right time," he said, adding he has no desire to join the cabinet for time being as he thought Mahathir should be given space to manage the country's affairs.
