Home Ministry officials have descended on the Asia Comic Cultural Museum in Penang to seize copies of former DAP member Hew Kuan Yau's comic book titled ‘Belt and Road Initiative for Win-Winism’.

Hew's book is currently in the centre of a storm after the Bahasa Malaysia version of the book was sent libraries in national and vernacular secondary schools for free.

The comic also allegedly promoted and spread erroneous facts about communist ideology.

Several KDN officers entered the museum in Komtar at about 11am to confiscate the copies, said a staff, who requested anonymity.

This comes after the Home Ministry banned the book after controversy erupted over copies being sent to school libraries.

"The officers spent about 30 minutes and seized 13 copies," said the staff.

According to the staff, the officers are awaiting directives from Putrajaya on further action on the copies already sent to school libraries.

When contacted, museum curator Hew Kuan Yau said that he was not at the museum this morning when the incident happened and declined further comment.

Hew, who was responsible for the content of the comic, as well as a local artist known as 'Tomato' and two others were questioned by Bukit Aman police yesterday.

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak also highlighted the book on his Facebook page, complaining that the comic was propaganda promoting DAP and it also ran down the previous BN government, him and his family.

Hew, however, denied the material was linked to DAP, sharing photos of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad presenting the book to Chinese leaders.

This prompted Mahathir, the Penang government and Education Minister Maszlee Malik to disown the book, while intense criticisms were hurled against Hew and DAP for purportedly promoting communism and putting down those who oppose China's treatment of minority group Uiyghr as "Muslim radicals".
