DAY 14 | Today is the last day for the candidates to campaign for the Nenggiri by-election.

Tomorrow, voters will choose their representative, either BN candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani or Perikatan Nasional’s Mohd Rizwadi Ismail.

We have Orang Asli activists too, Zahid tells PAS

9.15pm: BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says he was not impressed with Jaringan Kampung Orang Asli Kelantan (JKOAK) deputy chairperson Nasir Dollah’s appearance on the PAS stage last night.

Zahid says BN has its own Orang Asli activists, with some of them in the mainstream and holding high positions.

“We also have an Orang Asli representative who is the (Dewan Rakyat) deputy speaker and he is also the Orang Asli Village Development and Security Committee chairperson,” he says.

He was referring to Ramli Md Nor, who is also the Cameron Highlands MP.

Orang Asli support for BN remains strong - Zahid

7.30pm: Pos Pulat - Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is making a final push in the by-election campaign by visiting all five Orang Asli villages in Nenggiri.

Zahid expresses confidence that the 2,700 Orang Asli voters in the constituency will cast their ballots for BN candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani tomorrow.

“I received various reports in the early stages, but seeing it for myself at the Orang Asli villages made a significant difference.

“Having witnessed (the response) firsthand, I am confident that, despite the opponent's threats and various offers, the will of the Orang Asli voters remains strong,” he tells reporters during a gathering with the Orang Asli community of Pos Pulat today.

The BN chairperson’s other stops include Pos Gob, Pos Tohoi, Pos Simpor, and Pos Pasik.

EC expects more than 60pct voter turnout

2.20pm: The Election Commission expects the voter turnout tomorrow to reach 60 percent.

EC secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak says the results are expected to be announced at 9pm the earliest. There are 20,259 registered voters in the constituency.

He says preparations for the voting process at all the 20 Voting District Centres are going smoothly and 431 EC workers have been appointed to ensure smooth polling.

"Two helicopters and 40 four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles will be used to move the ballot boxes from the 20 polling stations to the vote-tallying centre for smooth vote tallying process," he says.

He says this after inspecting the preparations at the vote tallying centre at Dewan Perdana, Perdana Complex, Gua Musang District Council today, as reported by Bernama.

Ikmalrudin urges voters to cast their votes within the designated times to avoid overcrowding, bring along their identification cards, and check their voting times as six polling stations will close early.

BN's Azmawi confident of imminent victory

1.20pm: With less than 24 hours left for the polling process, BN candidate Mohd Azmawi Fkri Abdul Ghani is optimistic about emerging victorious tomorrow.

He says this is according to the positive response he received from voters throughout campaigning.

"God willing, I'm positive, but I won't stop sprinting until the finishing line," he tells the media in Gua Musang today.

Accompanying him on the campaign trail is Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, who is confident that Azmawi, fondly known as Awie, will win tomorrow’s by-election.

Muhyiddin: Survey shows voters support the ‘moon’

10am: Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin claims that a survey involving 500 voters shows that the majority of them support PAS candidate Mohd Rizwadi Ismail.

"In a study involving 500 voters, the majority of them said they support the 'moon' (PAS' logo). They said it openly, citing the reasons they rejected the (federal) government.

"They think the government has failed to lead the country and rejected Anwar Ibrahim as the prime minister. I'm not saying this, but the study results do," the Bersatu president says during PN's Grand Finale ceramah session in Kampung Jerek, Gua Musang.

He gives no details on who carried out the survey and how.

Muhyiddin further claims that the survey also showed that the people were "happier" during his administration, compared to now, although he led the country during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cops: Certain parties try to influence voters not to vote

8.30am: The police have confirmed that there have been attempts by certain parties to influence voters not to vote in the by-election tomorrow.

Kelantan police chief Muhamad Zaki Harun says the police take this matter seriously and will take stern action against those who make any extremely provocative statements that could disrupt the democratic system and public order.

He says such actions could be investigated under Section 4A(1) of the Election Offences Act 1954, which is the offence of promoting feelings of ill-will or hostility.

“The police will ensure that the election process runs smoothly without any hindrance and guarantee that all voters will be able to vote safely and freely make their choice without being influenced by any individuals to refrain from fulfilling their responsibilities as voters,” he says in a statement, as reported by Bernama.

Zaki says the police commend the majority of parties or individuals who campaign healthily and adhere to the election requirements.

“Any political party or individual is strictly prohibited from provoking one another to avoid disrupting public order,” he says.
