Muhyiddin trapped by own slip of tongue, says Puad

Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi said Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin is now “trapped” by his own slip of the tongue.

Puad said Muhyiddin’s remarks during the Nenggiri campaign trail, which saw the former premier being investigated for sedition, are not something new.

“I am puzzled why Tan Sri (Muhyiddin) raised the issue because he knows better.

“But I think he just wanted to play up the sentiment in Nenggiri and ended with him now trapped by his slip of the tongue,” Puad told reporters after Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s briefing for delegates at Dewan Merdeka, WTC Kuala Lumpur, today.

Puad hinted that Muhyiddin had in the days following the 15th general election, before the formation of the unity government, informed Umno of alleged support for him to be prime minister.

“For us Umno, we already know. He revealed it to the supreme council. So, I don’t think he needed to repeat it, but what we want (now) is to move on.

“The supreme council met until 1am to decide only one thing - whether to join the unity government or not.

“So, the question of numbers stated by Muhyiddin does not arise,” he said.

Earlier today, Muhyiddin submitted to the police 115 statutory declarations - including his own - which backed him as prime minister in the aftermath of the 15th general election in November 2022.

He also submitted a letter from the private secretary to the then-Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah affirming that he had received the declarations on Nov 21, 2022.

On Monday, the Pahang royal household was incensed with Muhyiddin’s speech, in which he lamented not being invited by the Agong to form the government after GE15 despite having the support.

Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah accused the PN chairperson of manipulating facts and called for a police investigation.

Muhyiddin subsequently defended his remarks but denied that he intended to insult the Agong.
