Muhyiddin Yassin should take a leaf out of his predecessor’s book and relinquish his posts in Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional, according to Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi.

He was referring to former premier Najib Abdul Razak, who stepped down from Umno and BN when the coalition was defeated in the 14th general election in 2008.

Furthermore, Puad pointed out that Najib, who is serving a six-year prison term, was not even charged at the time whereas the PN chairperson and Bersatu president has multiple strikes under his belt.

“He (Muhyiddin) has been charged with corruption in relation to (the) Jana Wibawa (programme). Today, he has been charged because of 3R (race, royalty and religion). His son-in-law (Muhammad Adlan Berhan) has not surrendered (to the MACC) and Bersatu lost badly in (the) Nenggiri (by-election).

“Despite this excess baggage, he wants to retain his positions,” he added in a Facebook post.

Puad also trained his guns on Muhyiddin’s ally, PAS, for their silence, claiming that the Islamist party is still confused about who the “dajjal” (devil) is.

Previously, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had likened Umno to the “dajjal” prompting his Umno counterpart Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to accuse PAS of being the “real dajjal”.

Earlier today, Muhyiddin claimed trial to a charge under the Sedition Act over his speech, which drew the ire of the Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, during the campaign period for the Nenggiri by-election in Kelantan.

Previously, he had defended his remarks, which concerned the appointment of the prime minister after the last national polls in 2022, as being factual and denied that he had intended to insult the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

During the police investigation, Muhyiddin also submitted 115 statutory declarations from lawmakers representing various parties purportedly supporting him to be the prime minister then.

The Pagoh MP also submitted a letter from the private secretary to the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong affirming that he had received the declarations on Nov 21, 2022.
