SD issue: Bersatu Youth lodges report against Zahid

Bersatu Youth permanent chairperson Akmal Zahin Zainal Zahir today lodged a police report against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also BN chairperson, for allegedly deceiving and misleading the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Akmal (above, in green) referred to Zahid’s claim that he had all 30 statutory declarations (SD) by BN MPs who supported Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister, right after the 15th general election in 2022.

“Zahid admitted that he had sent a letter to Istana Negara after BN MPs withdrew support for Muhyiddin Yassin and remained neutral.

“It is clear that Zahid deceived and misled the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah) and this is a serious criminal offence,” Akmal told reporters at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.

Questions surrounding support for Anwar to form a government were again raised after Muhyiddin’s speech on the Nenggiri by-election campaign trail.

On Aug 21, Muhyiddin, as part of a sedition probe against him, said he had handed over 115 SDs to the police for investigation.

He also submitted a letter to confirm that the SDs were received by Sultan Abdullah’s private secretary.

The SDs are said to have been collected shortly after GE15, which ended with a hung Parliament.

On Aug 22, Zahid refuted Muhyiddin and claimed that 10 of the SDs from BN MPs were invalid.

Commenting further, Akmal said Bersatu called for Zahid to be investigated under Section 124 of the Penal Code (Act 574).

“We also ask the police to investigate because, on Nov 22, 2022, the Agong ordered the 30 BN MPs to appear individually at 10.30am at Istana Negara.

“But what happened was not 30 MPs but only three came,” he said.

As such, Akmal urged the police to investigate if there was any instruction from Zahid that prevented the MPs from having an audience and stating their individual choice for prime minister.

Sabil Squad allowance

In addition, Bersatu Youth filed a second report against Zahid for alleged abuse of power as rural and regional development minister in announcing the provision of allowances to the Sabil Squad.

Its operations secretary Meor Naqiuddin said Zahid should not use public funds for groups that carry out work for political parties.

“In that case, anybody with a voluntary uniform, such as the PAS Unit Amal, should also get an allowance.

“But because Zahid is the minister in charge of the Civil Defence Force (APM), he uses that power to benefit the squad (Sabil) under Umno.

“This is all taxpayers’ money. We want to know on what basis the Sabil Squad should receive an allowance from state funds,” he emphasised.

Meor added that Bersatu Youth is also contemplating lodging a report with MACC on the matter.

Zahid in his closing speech at the Umno General Assembly last Saturday announced that the Sabil Squad would be part of APM and be given an allowance.
