Govt will shadowban PN social media accounts ahead of GE16, PAS claims

PAS MUKTAMAR | PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari claimed that the government will shadowban the social media accounts operated by Perikatan Nasional parties ahead of the next general election.

According to him, the move will be on a large scale involving major media social platforms such as Facebook, TikTok and WhatsApp.

Thus, he urged all PAS members to start utilising the party’s own application by scanning its QR Code and updating their activities there.

“There is no use for us to keep depending on platforms such as Facebook and TikTok. Because we might be shadowbanned.

“I would like to remind you that the current government will employ this new tactic (against the opposition) especially when it is nearing the next general election,” Fadhli (above) said in his winding-up speech at the 70th PAS Muktamar in Kerdau, Temerloh in Pahang today.

Shadowbanning refers to the action of a social media company limiting who can see a user’s posting or comment, usually without the person who has published them knowing.

Separately, PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad in his winding-up address called on party members, especially those from the younger generation, to defend its leaders on social media.

Idris said he was sad to see PAS leaders including party president Abdul Hadi Awang subjected to harsh attacks on social media, including on PAS’ pages.

“These happened on our own social media pages, not the enemies’. So I was wondering where our young people are.

“Ustaz Afnan, if we cannot depend on our youth, I do not know what to say. That’s why I hope we can be more active (on social media),” he said, referring to PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden.
