Negeri Sembilan Crisis

  • DAP will continue to back Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun and object to any attempts to remove the Sikamat assemblyperson from his position.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, who is also Chennah assemblyperson, said the decision was reached during the party’s central executive council meeting in Kuala Lumpur last night.

“DAP will reject any proposal to change the menteri besar at this time, after an attempt to bring down the (state) government had failed,” said Loke in reference to Negeri Sembilan Umno’s withdrawal of support for Aminuddin, and subsequent “U-turn”.

Loke said DAP has also directed all party machineries to prepare for the possibility of urgent state elections in Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, and Johor.

Education

  • MCA president Wee Ka Siong said that 11 SPM graduates who scored 10As have secured matriculation placement in line with the government’s pledge to enrol all SPM top scorers.

He said that the 11 had previously complained to MCA Youth that they were not automatically enrolled as pledged.

“I would like to express my appreciation to the officers from the matriculation division of the Education Ministry for their assistance in handling these appeal cases,” he said on Facebook last night.

Wee was also informed that 284 SPM candidates who originally obtained 8As or 9As had their results revised to 10As after a review by the Malaysian Examinations Board. They too secured matriculation placement.

  • Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said that the 11 aforementioned students had already been notified of their matriculation placements on April 27 and 29 - days before the MCA president raised the issue.

He said this was confirmed after cross-checking the names Wee provided yesterday morning.

“Wee said this (matriculation entry) was the result of the MCA Youth appeal. The truth is, this is not the result of the appeal; it is the achievement of institutional reform,” Wong said on Facebook last night.
