Judicial review

• Wanita Umno exco member Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid clarified that the court's decision to grant leave for a judicial review against Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) does not amount to a final ruling of his corruption case.

  Nurulhidayah, who is also the daughter of the Umno president, explained that the bid allowed a full hearing of the case, and should not be interpreted as proof that Zahid is guilty.

  

  “However, as usual, certain quarters try to play up the perceptions and political propaganda as though the final decision has been made in an effort to weaken party members’ morale and sow hatred against the party,” she said on Facebook today.

  The Wanita Umno leader stressed that the party respects due process and urged members not to fall for political narratives aimed at weakening or causing division within its ranks.

Sinkhole accident

• After nearly two years, the National Registration Department has issued the death certificate for tourist Vijaya Lakshmi, who had gone missing when a sinkhole appeared beneath her as she was walking along Jalan Masjid India in central Kuala Lumpur.

  The family's lawyer M Partiben, said the document was handed to Vijaya’s son, Surya Madhaiha, paving the way for the process to claim compensation from the authorities.

  

  “The next step is to arrange meetings with the special officer to the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Hannah Yeoh, as well as Kuala Lumpur Mayor Maimunah Sharif, to discuss the compensation amount,” he was quoted as saying.

  He suggested that the government refer to a Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court decision, where the court found the city hall negligent in maintaining its trees and ordered the mayor to pay RM824,180 to the family of a victim killed by a falling tree on March 22, 2023.
